A Mennecy gilt-metal mounted ewer and basin

1755 – 1760

There are very few Mennecy pieces known of this grandeur and quality. The use of gilding, which was formally prohibited by their privilege, suggests that a piece like this was not for normal commercial production but a special presentation piece.

Condition – Minor retouching to rubbing of the enamels in the basin.

Provenance – The Darblay Collection
Comtesse de la Rochefoucauld (according to an old paper label)
