This type of stylised flower and scattered insects painting is copied from Meissen Holzschnitt Blumen, taken from woodblock prints by artist such as Jacob Hoefnagel, and was one of the earliest types of decoration at Doccia.[i]

Jacob Hoefnagel, after Joris Hoefnagel, 1592
Similar flowers and insects were used on the Marana-Isola service[ii] and on a particularly early coffeepot, in the National Museums and Galleries of Wales made for the Gerini and Franceschi families.[iii]
