Willian Ewart Gladstone (1809-1898) was a noted collector of porcelain, leader of the Liberal party and Prime Minister for twelve years over four non-consecutive terms.

Lady Charlotte Schreiber admired his porcelain but not his politics, recording in her Journal:

15th February 1880 “…I utterly abhor Gladstone, and all his works politically speaking.”
