A DELFT TWO-HANDLED COVERED JAR

A DELFT TWO-HANDLED COVERED JAR

Bristol
Circa 1720
17.1 cm. high

With polychrome bird decoration in red, green and blue, in front of sponged bushes interspersed with patterned flowers and various other patterns.

Often referred to as spice jars, Michael Archer points out that there is no evidence for this usage and suggests that they could instead have been used for ginger.

It is very rare to find one with a cover and in such good condition.
