A Sèvres green-ground tea caddy ‘bôite à thé

Interlaced ‘L’s enclosing the date letter h for 1761, Crescent mark for Armand l’aîné, incised cursive ‘M’

7.0 cm wide,  6.4 cm high, 4.8 cm deep

Of rectangular section with concave canted corners, painted with four oval panels each of two birds in branches within gilt cartouches the shoulders with peacock feathers in gold.

A cup (with a later saucer) possibly from the same service is in the Wallace Collection (Savill, p547, C368). Savill cites a cup and saucer and a milk jug ‘à trois pieds’ in the Ashley collection in 1873 and sold in Sotheby’s New York in 1980 (Sotheby’s New York, 15 October 1980, lot 354-5). The two handled tray is in the Beit Collection, Russborough House, Co. Wicklow, Ireland.

Condition – Cover missing. Small chip to one corner. Wear to gilding.
