Interlaced Ls enclosing an indistinct date letter probably ‘N’
The tray with sides pierced with simplified Vitruvian scrolls interspersed with mauve and blue harebells.
The centre of the tray decorated à frise riche with four paterae surrounded by laurel branches centred around a smaller square with blue and gold diaper patterns in the corners.
Dame Rosalind Savill notes in her catalogue of the Sèvres porcelain in The Wallace Collection that the Vitruvian scroll and harebell pattern is one of the earliest neo-classical motifs at Sèvres and that Svend Eriksen has suggested Falconet as the designer.
Frise riche borders are characteristic of the period 1766-1768.
Condition:
Small triangular piece, about 3mm, on each side restuck.
