Decorated in blue and white with two overlapping panels, the upper panel painted with bare hanging branches in a wax-resist, the lower panel with a butterfly amongst grasses. In the upper right corner is an inscription of three rows of repeated characters.
The term Ai-Kutani has fallen out of use as they are not considered to have been made in Kutani. It refers to pieces made for the domestic market which rarely appear in early Western collections.
