Painted with a central classical trophy against a ground of cornflowers and roses in a gilt trellis. The flowers are by Jean-Nicholas le Bel le jeune (1765-93), and it is gilded by Henri-Martin Prevost (1757-97). The painting of the trophies is attributed to Louis-Gabriel Chulot (1755-1800).

This form is also sometimes referred to as a plateau à rubans or plateau ovale polylobé but whilst the plaster mould has not survived the name plateau à baguette can be inferred from an order in October 1773 by Monsieur Gantier, probably on behalf of Grand Duke Paul Petrovich, (the future Tsar of Russia), for a “déjeuner à baguette fond d’or emaillé avec attributs, armes et guirlandes cy 840 [livres],” [tea service à baguettes with a gold ground, enamelled with attributes, arms and garlands, 840 livres]. The tray of this form with his coat-of-arms, is now in the Musée National de Céramique, Sèvres
