The rose marbré ground formed of jagged blue elements separated by brown areas heavily dotted with gold was one of the more spectacular grounds devised by Sèvres and was fashionable from 1760-63. It was achieved by applying a blue enamel coating, which after it had dried, was then partially removed, the purple enamel was then applied, followed by the gilded highlights.
