A VINCENNES CUP AND A SAUCER

A VINCENNES CUP AND A SAUCER

Gobelet Calabre
Circa 1751-53
The cup 7.8 cm high, the saucer 13.6 cm diam.
Both with interlaced ‘L’s and dots
The saucer incised ‘pno’ and a cursive ‘d’ within the foot

The scrolling branch handle terminating in leaves at the top, painted with sprays of flowers and insects.

The saucer is unusual in having a hole pierced through the footrim. It also has the early feature of two sets of three blackened dots on the outer side of the footrim where it was supported during firing.

The saucer is painted with a greater degree of delicacy which is suggestive of a different hand.
