A DUPAQUIER OVAL PIERCED BASKET

Circa 1725-1730
17.2 cm wide, 9.4 cm. high
Inscribed in black under the base ‘Pere Sciot’

This unrecorded form is painted in a simple palette of, green and purple with some black outlines with borders of iron-red laub und bandelwerk. The scattered bugs include and additional yellow and blue. The monogram in two tones of iron-red perhaps reads ‘G, V and L’.

No other comparable basket is recorded in Fired By Passion, Viennese Baroque Porcelain of Claudius Innocentius du Paquier. The palette and imperfections in the paste indicate and early date.

Condition:

Two firing cracks and imperfections. Small area of iron-red on the border retouched.
