A FAÇON DE VENISE GOBLET

Venice or The Netherlands, late 16th to early 17th century
13.5 cm high, 12.4 diam.

The wide funnel-shaped bowl is mould blown with twelve vertical ribs.  The bowl is encircled seven times by a continuous applied trail. The hollow stem with a ribbed knop above a spirally-moulded flattened and inverted baluster, supported on a shallow conical foot with a folded rim.

Susanne Higgott discusses a glass with similar bowl in the Wallace Collection (Higgott 2011, no. 41) where she says that this type of bowl has been attributed to Venice and the Low Countries.
